Preparer Tax Identification Number(PTIN) is an identification number that is issued by the tax preparers to file tax returns with the IRS on the behalf of their clients. Any paid tax preparer who files tax returns for other businesses must have a PTIN. The PTIN must be valid up to date before preparing tax returns.
A PTIN is issued to the professional tax preparers by the IRS, such as Enrolled Agents (EAs) and Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), who are paid for filing federal tax return preparation services. A tax preparer must include their respective PTIN ID number on all tax returns they file with the IRS. If you do not have a PTIN, click here to apply for one.
