Yes, the federal law mandates that all payers must send 1099-NEC copies to their recipients in order for them to file their income tax returns. A payer has to issue two copies of Form 1099-NEC (Copy B & Copy 2) to the recipient by January 31st.

If you file Form 1099-NEC through ExpressEfile, you can choose to mail recipient copies on your behalf.



If you have not opted for the postal mailing option, you can download the form in the standard PDF format and send it manually, or you may simply email the copies directly to your recipients.

Note: If the deadline to send recipient copies falls on a weekend or a legal holiday, the deadline will be the next business day.
