I don’t have an EIN. Can I file Form 2290?

Applicable To
Form 941 Form 1099 / W-2 Form 2290

The Employer Identification Number (EIN) of a business is mandatory for filing Form 2290. The IRS uses the EIN to keep track of the business records.

If you don’t have an EIN for your business, you can apply online for one or call 1-800-829-4933. Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for an EIN to become active in the IRS records.

Note: Make sure you’re not entering your SSN. Your return will be rejected by the IRS.
