The due date for paying the employee share of deferred social security taxes of 2020 has been extended till December 31, 2021

As per the CARES Act, the IRS provided an option to defer the employee share of social security taxes for the wages paid between September 01 to December 31, 2020, and set the due date as April 30, 2021. However, based on Notice 2021-11, the deadline has been extended till December 31, 2021. It is the employer’s responsibility to withhold and pay the deferred social security taxes within the deadline.
