Form 8974, Qualified Small Business Payroll Tax Credit for Increasing Research Activities, is used by qualified small businesses to determine the qualified payroll credit amount, i.e., the employer portion of social security tax, to increase research activities for the business.
Small businesses can claim the qualified amount while filing Form 941 by entering the amount in line 11a and attaching a copy of Form 8974.
